Subforms interview
We’d like to present an interview with Subforms. A project from Ukraine which has recently released a full lenght CD album on our label called “Fragments“. Enjoy the interview! (an interview was translated from Russian).
Hello! How have you been?
Hi! We‘re fine. Life is full of light and positive moments. And we‘re happy about it
Why „Fragments“ ?
To be honest, we didn‘t think too long to come up with a name of an album. It somehow came to us in a subliminal level. We make music based on our emotions and experiences, based on moments of our life. Every track is a little fragment from the past, which we wanted to express through the music. This is how this name came up.
We don‘t care about style or genre. Our main goal is to express our moods and feelings through music.
Tell us how Subforms was formed and how it was evolving?
Subforms is quite a young project. It was created more than a year ago. Every member was already somehow involved with music before the project. We were playing in clubs, parties. Sometimes we were organising events by our selves. We met while doing all this and started to get along. In like two years we decided to have a project together. We didn‘t have any big goals, all we wanted was to be making and play music that we love. So as a result, Subforms was formed. At first we were three people, but at the moment we‘re only two guys.
And tell us about how was album „Fragments“ created?
We started working on it in an early Autumn of 2010. At this point we didn‘t even plan it as a full lenght album. But when we had five or six tracks completed, which were interesting enough, we came up with an idea to make a full album out of it.
What inspires you the most?
It can be anything. Everything what‘s going around us and what we come across in our lives. It can be new connections, great movie or just a sunny day. There‘s an infinite number of sources of inspiration. The most important is to be able to notice them.
Tell us about electronic music scene in Ukraine.
In Ukraine electronic music scene is evolving very slowly, and never in that direction that we wish it was evolving. In the most countries electronic music was getting it‘s way from underground to daylight. In Ukraine it‘s all upside down. Here it‘s all commercial. Money first – then music.
Do you play gigs often? And you play like a DJ team or live?
We play quite often. At most of the times it‘s a DJ set. Our own music is not for clubs, it may fit a chill-out stage though. So we play live quite rarely. Only on special events.
What kind of music you prefer to listen to?
No limit here. You can find something interesting on every style or genre, so we listen to a lot of different music, from idm to jazz.
Thank you for taking time to answer our questions! Good luck!
It was our pleasure. Good luck with the label!
